Catherine Bond has secured the release for her client who served over 20 years in closed conditions on his IPP sentence. Catherine started representing her client after the Parole Board had refused to direct an oral hearing and there was no support for progression. Catherine successfully argued for an oral hearing and following a lengthy review with evidence from 11 witnesses, her client's release was finally directed. Catherine's client had lost hope of ever being released, having tried numerous treatment pathways which had been unsuccessful. He showed admirable resilience and strength to continue to engage with the parole process, and hopefully will go on to successfully rebuild his life in the community. This is a story of hope for other non-released IPP prisoners who are still fighting for their freedom.
