The IPP sentence is a national scandal

SL5 Legal's managing director, Andrew Sperling, supports the call to re-sentence IPP prisoners, removing the IPP sentence for good.

Despite the abolition of the Imprisonment for Public Protection (IPP) sentence in 2012, hundreds still suffer its harrowing effects.

Mum, Shirley Debono, describes the IPP as a "life sentence through the back door".

Her son served nine years after being given an IPP sentence with a minimum term of two years and nine months for pushing over a man and stealing his phone. He has served three times his sentence so far. He can be recalled to prison at any time for as little as missing a phone call.
