On 7 September, SL5's Andrew Sperling visited the new Public Protection Casework Section (PPCS) headquarters in Croydon to meet with their case managers.
Andrew was there to discuss:
the challenges facing legal representatives in the current parole system
the challenges facing prisoners with learning difficulties, disabilities, mental health problems and issues associated with ageing, in progressing through the penal and parole system
This was an excellent opportunity to meet with civil servants who make decisions and manage administrative processes which have a significant impact on the progression of prisoners.
Andrew emphasised the importance of clear and transparent communication, the impact of delays and how PPCS could act more creatively and energetically to enable ‘stuck’ cases to progress more effectively.
